Coffee roast

We are fortunate to source a single variety SL28 Microlot from Kabi at Mount Kenya Coffee up in Sydney. Kabi, being Kenyan herself, has strong ties to her home country and has brought some absolutely smashing coffees into Australia. We love this lot for being exactly what it is - a bloody good Kenya. When roasted fresh for filter, we've found a strong brown sugar flavour coming through but it fully opens up after a month or so to notes of blackberries, blackcurrants, and herbaceous florals with a delightful tart acidity. We also offer a slightly darker roast for a yummy sweet espresso.

The SL28 variety is the classic Kenya variety. Developed by Scott Laboraties in the 1930s and prized for it's resilience and fruitful character. Often grown and blended with SL34, this variety is known for its complexity, with winey fruity notes being very common. the

Fairview Coffee Estate has been growing coffee since the early 1900s, making it one of the oldest continuously operating farms in Kenya's Central Highlands. Situated on Kiambu Road at 1,750 metres above sea level, the farm is irrigated by the Riara River, fed by streams from the surrounding highlands, and has nearly 100 acres under coffee cultivation.

At peak harvest, close to 400 workers are on the ground pruning, irrigating, harvesting and sorting. Fairview takes a holistic approach to production, prioritising environmental sustainability without compromising on quality. That consistency over more than a century is what sets this estate apart in one of Kenya's most renowned coffee-growing regions.
